We're Having a FALL at The House on High Street!

Food & Home, The House on High Street

So fall is officially here, but I am chomping at the bit to see these leaves turn colors and feel the cooler, crisp air. (It’s still pretty warm in New Jersey!) This is the time I get into full homemaker mode. From decorating and pumpkin picking to baking with all of those delicious, Autumn ingredients. Regardless of the slow pace on its arrival, we are officially having a FALL at The House on High Street.

On Saturday, Scott and I took Baby Blue to pick out pumpkins and mums (and all that fun stuff) for our porch. There is a place near us that sells everything you need for fall. Corn stalks. HUGE mums. Pumpkins. Hay bails. You name it! It was so much fun bringing Blue along, because they also had horses and roosters and tractors. I think I had just as much fun, if not more, than Blue in the wagons!

Baby Blue is still too little to understand what is going on around him. But, he loves observing anything new.

I think this is the first year that I have not bought any new fall decor, for inside the house. Yet! (lol) Last year, Michael’s had a great sale on their beautiful fall foliage garland. I grabbed several of those! I’ve also collected fall decor, over the past few years, from Dollar stores, Target, Amazon, and Joann’s Fabrics, as well.

As you can see, I use a lot of garland! We have several fireplace mantles in the house, and it looks so pretty on top of a mantle. I also decorate the staircase banister with the same garland. The orange and yellow lights, which are strung along the garland, make everything look festive and cozy, at night!

Speaking of cozy, I have a few autumn candles that make the whole house smell like autumn. You don’t need to spend a lot on a pumpkin spice candle. They sell them everywhere this time of year!

This is also one of my favorite seasons to bake. So far, I’ve only baked cookies and homemade apple sauce. But, soon I’ll be making more desserts with pumpkin. Baby Blue loves pumpkin flavored anything. Such as the pumpkin pancakes (made by Trader Joe’s). And, the homemade pumpkin pie, my neighbor brought us, over the weekend. Blue is definitely a fan of the fall season, for life!

I long for the day Baby Blue is big enough to carry his own pumpkin. For now, I don’t mind. It’s harder picking out the ones I wanted!

So, what are you up to, so far, this fall? Decorating? Baking? Pumpkin picking? Whatever it is, I hope you’re having a FALL, too!
